We invite qualified applicants to apply for the position which serves as an Account Clerk II in the Vouchering Division of the Administrative Services Section at State Retirement Systems (SRS). This position is responsible for reviewing and entering banking information, change of address forms, entering outside deductions for current SRS benefits, and reviewing and processing files for new benefits. This position is also responsible for processing monthly expenses. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, detail oriented, have excellent analytic, communication (both verbal and in writing), and organizational skills. SRS is conveniently located on the west side of Springfield with free parking on-site.

Position Essential Functions

  • Prepares all electronic fund transfer forms for next available continuing monthly benefit payment, ensuring benefit payments are paid accurately on the next available prelist by verifying status of payee and information provided on the form.
  • Processes monthly adjustments to ongoing payments, coordinates electronic deposit information.
  • Prepares both administrative expense and claims receivable refund vouchers for initial phase of payment through the SAMS/AIS vouchering system by entering all invoices on a timely basis.
  • Process monthly benefit files for required adjustments to benefit payment amount due to various offsets or reductions and activation of deferred monthly payment files.
  • Prepares administrative services documents for imaging by assembling documents accurately, checking for completeness and print quality, and creating barcodes.
  • Responsible for the accurate completion and submission of State Comptroller Warrant Action Request Form (C-50) which directs a stop and replacement for lost or destroyed benefit payment warrants.
  • Reviews all agency telecommunications bills for accuracy and compliance with agency telephone usage policy.
  • Maintains adequate level of office supplies by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating requirements, placing orders, verifying receipt, and stocking items.
  • Answers telephone calls and assists office visitors fielding questions from benefit recipients or their representative relating to benefit deductions and tax withholding changes.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of High School.
  • Requires one (1) year of office experience, including bookkeeping work.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Requires working knowledge of office methods and procedures.
  • Requires elementary knowledge of the principles and functions of standard office accounting machines and equipment.
  • Requires ability to apply bookkeeping principles.
  • Requires ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic calculations either manually or by machine.

Work Hours: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m., Monday - Friday, in the office on a full-time basis - no remote work option
